GBPCAD is a volatile cross pair that trades the British pound against the Canadian dollar. Both currencies are influenced by commodity prices—the UK is a North Sea oil producer, and Canada is a major oil producer—but their sensitivities differ.
The pair is also influenced by transatlantic trade between the UK and Canada, strengthened by the post-Brexit CETA (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement). Differences in monetary policy between the BoE and the Bank of Canada can create significant longer-term trends.
For prop firm traders, GBPCAD offers volatility of 80 to 120 pips per day, similar to GBPUSD. The pair is active during the London session and the London/New York overlap, when both economies see their highest activity.
Key releases to watch include UK and Canadian employment data, inflation figures from both countries, and decisions from the BoE and the Bank of Canada. Oil prices are also an important indirect catalyst for the Canadian dollar.
At TopTraderPrime, GBPCAD is available with a spread of 0.40 pips and leverage up to 1:100.
