The DAX40 is the flagship index of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (Deutsche Börse), bringing together Germany’s 40 largest publicly traded companies. Dominated by world-class industrial and financial powerhouses—including SAP, Siemens, Volkswagen, Allianz, and Deutsche Bank—the DAX40 is a barometer of Europe’s largest economy.
As a global export powerhouse, Germany is highly exposed to worldwide economic cycles. The DAX40 therefore responds not only to European economic data and ECB decisions, but also to global economic conditions, particularly in China—a major destination for German exports.
For European prop firm traders, the DAX40 is a favorite because it’s active during regular CET business hours (9h-17h30). Its volatility of 150 to 250 points per day offers excellent intraday trading opportunities without requiring you to stay up overnight. Manufacturing PMI data, the IFO Business Climate, and ECB announcements are its main catalysts.
The DAX40 is also influenced by US economic data released toward the end of the European session (14h30-15h30 CET), often triggering significant moves or reversals around NFP and CPI releases or Fed decisions.
On TopTraderPrime, the DAX40 is available with a spread of 0.80 points and leverage up to 1:100—ideal for European traders.
